Maggie Grace is an American actor who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her best-known roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character on ABC's Lost series and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. She was born in Worthington in Ohio. She dropped out of school when her parents separated to go to Los Angeles to live with her mother. Even though she had financial difficulties, her 2001 debut was in the role of Rachel's Room's main character. In the following year, she was awarded a Young Artist Award nomination in 2002, for her role as the 15 year old murder victim Martha Moxley in the television movie Murder in Greenwich. Grace played Shannon Rutherford on the Lost television show in 2004. She was the main protagonist for two seasons and won an award for her performance, a Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace quit the show in 2005 to focus on an even more prominent role in films, having appeared opposite Tom Welling as Kim Mills in Taken. She was on the screen in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in both 2007 and Taken (2008) opposite Liam Neeson. The role was reprised in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the leading role in Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern take on Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace reprised her role as Shannon in Lost, including the finale. In 2013, she appeared in Season 6 of Californication. She plays Faith as a groupie, as well as a model for actors. She is part of the Gyllenhaal family and is the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began in the teen years with minor parts in a few of her father's films and appeared alongside her brother in the popular cult film Donnie Darko (2001). Then she appeared in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal was nominated to win an Golden Globe Award in both the action drama Sherrybaby (2005) and in the romantic comedy Secretary (2002). The two films received acclaim from critics. In the wake of several successful commercial films in 2006 including World Trade Center she received greater recognition for her performance as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). In the wake of her performance that was a hit as a mother who is not married of Crazy Heart (2009), she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Then she was in comedies and dramas such as Nanny McPhee's Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012 She also played the role of a Secret Service Agent in White House Down the action thriller that was released in 2013. She also played a musician as Frank (2014), a musician Frank (2014) and the lead role in The Kindergarten Teacher, a drama released in 2018. Gyllenhaal was first introduced as a director and writer in 2021, with the psycho-drama The Lost Daughter. For the film, she won an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award.
